His Church - The Apostolic Church
Last Sunday we looked at the church as an apostolic center. Apostolic comes from the Greek word ‘apostle’ and in the Roman world it was the office of someone w send into new territory by the emperor with a team of gifted people with the purpose of transforming the culture and society into the culture of the emperor.
In Acts 11:19-26 we see the record of the start of the church in Antioch and only a couple of chapters later in Acts 13:1-4 we see that this young church is sending out their first missionaries into the world.
Going through these verses, we learn principles of what it is to be an apostolic church:
- it is a church that reaches out to others with the gospel
- it has a strong witness in the city
- it is a praying church
- it is a sending church
We want to invite you to pray for the nations and for God to send people into the harvest field (Matt 9:37-38).
