Seek & Find - When You Fast

Dec 8, 2024    Tabitha De Wachter

Last week we looked at fasting. Although we don’t see any commandment to fast in the new testament, we do see that Jesus assumed his disciples would fast when He said ‘when you fast…’ (Matt 6:16-17).

As we looked at what fasting is all about, we discovered that throughout the bible and church history people fasted in order to seek God and God alone. Fasting is a forsaking of our daily food, because we are hungry for Gods presence and intervention.

Hunger and not rituals is what God is attracted to. Our hearts devotions have always been the focus of His attention, rather than acts of religion.

So as the week of prayer and fasting comes up in January, let’s put aside distractions, and seek and hunger for Gods presence and intervention in our lives, our church and our nations.
