Compassion Sunday
We all know darkness: sin, fear, doubt of God, loneliness, suffering, hardship. In the midst of the darkness, Jesus has come as the light of the world. He offers forgiveness of sin and a way out of the darkness. When you follow Him, He shines as light in the darkness and the fear disappears.
If Jesus lives in us, we are also called to spread His light. Jesus says, “You are the light of the world” and “Let your light shine before others.” If we are ambassadors of Christ, the people around us will experience His light. This is the message that Emmanuel shared with us during our Compassion Sunday.
Harriet, who works at Compassion Netherlands told us more about Compassion. This is a Christian organization that frees children from poverty in Jesus’ name, by sponsoring children all over the world. Compassion projects do their work through Christ, with a focus on children and through the local church. The children receive an education, food and health care, love, social support and hear the good news of Jesus.
We as church sponsor 4 children. If you would also like to sponsor a child, there are more children from the same project who are waiting for a sponsor. Several people have already done this after the service! Would you also want to do this? Then speak to someone from the team, they will be happy to help you.
